Bristol Bay

I had to say bye to the family for a bit, and the memories of Mexico. So now I'm up in Bristol Bay, Alaska. Three months of nonstop boat work and fishing to look forward to. I've been here for 18 days and the weather has been great. No rain and lot's of sun. We usually put in about 6 months of work in in only 3 months time. The days are long so you can put in some long days. The sun sets at 11pm and doesn't get dark till around midnight. I'm not sure about sunrise. It's up before me.

We will start fishing sometime in mid June and will be working around the clock for over a month, 7 days a week. It's a cool place up here. With the amount of fish that come up these rivers every year, to the bears and foxes and to all the fishing boats that are here. There's more fishing boats here than year round residents. The Salmon are a huge resource for the community here and to those around the world in which they are being shipped to. Hopefully it's around a long time from now.

Leaving Mazatlan, Mexico

Saying bye to our neighbor's and friends.

Crazy last week in Mazatlan, "Semana de Moto"

We stayed in Las Flores our last night. I won a free night stay there, and it was a perfect way to wrap up the winter. Right on the beach with pools for the kiddos. The only thing was that I didn't plan on getting from Olas Altas to the golden zone during the motorcycle rally by taxi. I had to talk the taxi guy into at least try. Traffic was ridiculous. But he did awesome, even backing up all the way to the lobby through 100 bikes in the parking lot.

My little board packers.

Olas Altas

The other day out front here at Olas Altas. I went up to hit the lip right before it multiplied and sent me flying to the bottom of the ocean.
= FUN!

Surf Por un Bien

This past weekend was the Surf Por un Bien surf contest at Playa Bruja.
Finalist of the Open Division of surfing. I took first place in the finals. It's been awhile since I had a win. It felt really good. I was fortunate in the finals to get a couple waves quick before the ocean went calm for 10-15 minutes. Then picked off another set wave over from the rocks. There's some good surfers in Mazatlan. Marco and Rodrigo were looking hungry. I was stoked to pick off a couple good waves in the finals.
Made the front page of Sundays paper. Great group of surfers and students who put on a great event.

Cool hand made trophies.
Also stoked to order a new custom board from Carlos at Kingdom Surf for one of the prizes. Check his website out. His boards are under a lot of the rippers down here.

New Sponsor, Helly Hansen

I'm happy to have support from new sponsor Helly Hansen this year. Great company that's been around for awhile. Started in 1877 by a Norwegian sea captain, Helly Juell Hansen and is wife making oilskin jackets that sold like salmon swimming up the Naknek river. Unlike other companies they've stayed at the forefront of clothing technology by staying involved with each discipline they represent. They have the best products available for biking, fishing, climbing and sailing. A few of my favorite things. Can't wait to get some new gear for this coming season.
